I've been running Windows 10 since its public launch and not had a problem until now. Suddenly it's started write protecting USB drives when I plug them in. It started yesterday when I plugged a drive in and Windows detected a problem with the drive and instructed me to scan and repair, which I did. I can view the content but not write or delete. I tried the drive in another machine using Windows 7 and it said that the drive malfunctioned. I put this down to a faulty drive although it has never failed me before.

Again, I can view and access the files and can copy from the drive but cannot write to or edit. Flash Drive Is Write Protected Fix![]()
*UPDATE*
I've just tried another, old Kingston Data Traveler USB drive knowing that it's good quality and never let me down, and also knowing that the data on it is not important. I plugged it in and had the same message stating that there was something wrong with the drive and instructing me to repair. I ignored the message and the drive window opened, I have deleted folders and am currently writing £Gb of data to it with no problem.
So, the problem appears to be Windows 10 determining that there are non-existent problems on the flash drive and the repair process locking them. Ub funkeys software.
